Welcome
The European School of T’ai Chi Chuan was founded in 1995, inspired by the teaching of Tew Bunnag.
The basic understanding that guides the T’ai Chi is ‘metta’ - the practice of compassion & non-violence.
T’ai Chi is a way of connecting with the energy that underlies all of life. It develops a way of being rooted in stillness. This invites a spirit of exploration:
- how to go deeper into this stillness
- how to become aware that this stillness is the source of action
- and ultimately how to move from stillness while connecting with everyday life.
The ESTCC reconizes the value of drawing from many different styles of Qi Gong & T’ai Chi. The art can be authentically practised without falling into the trap of slavishly following lineages, at the expense of learning from the teacher within.
The school regards it as a strength to encourage the freedom and individual responsibility (along with the risks) to develop and explore the Yang style, primarily, in ways which are suitable for 21st century Europeans. As a result we are a richly varied group who try to keep true to the Taoist spirit of non-conformity, while honouring the continual return to the source of this beautiful and powerful art.
